Connell pitches another gem in lifting Blacksburg to 5-1 win over Kings Mountain

Transfer Kirby Connell has become an instant hit for the Blacksburg baseball team.

Connell turned in another strong performance, giving up only three hits and striking out six in 5 2.3 innings of work in a 5-1 win over Kings Mountain on Thursday.

He also allowed only two walks before giving way to Tyler Morriason who pitched shutout ball the rest of the way.

The Wildcats jumped on top with two runs in the top of the first before going ahead 3-0 in the third. Blacksburg tacked on single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Connell also helped his own cause at the plate with two doubles and an RBI.

J. Andrew Gore doubled and knocked in a pair of runs for the Wildcats.

J. Andrew and Jackson Gore scored two runs each.

Blacksburg is back in action Wednesday at Chester before hosting High Point Academy on Thursday.
