Adult Education Classes

  • The Cherokee County Adult Education Program has begun second semester classes for individuals who need their high school diploma or equivalency diploma (GED) or Workkeys Certificate. The adult program is located in the Copeland Community Learning Center, 243 Allison Drive, Gaffney, S.C. Day and evening classes are offered. Museum Chili Fundraiser

  • Orders are now being taken for the 4th Annual Cherokee County History & Arts Museum chili fundraiser for delivery over the February 4-5 Super Bowl weekend. The thick and tasty one quart-or-more orders can be called-in right up to the Friday, Feb. 3 noon deadline, and picked-up on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 2-5 p.m. at 301 College Drive, or Super Bowl Sunday from 2-3 p.m. Each quart of chili is $10. Payment is due upon pick-up, but you must pre-order. All orders are to-go. To place your order, please call 489-3988 Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds support museum operations.

Junior League Storybook Breakfast

  • The Junior League of Spartanburg is excited to present Storybook Breakfast, one of its annual fundraising events that helps to promote literacy in Spartanburg County, and benefit local community projects, on Saturday, February 11. There are two seating times, the first at 8:30 a.m. and the second at 10:30 a.m. Storybook Breakfast is a magical event sure to delight children of all ages, and will be held at the Cleveland Park Event Center. During Storybook Breakfast, attendees will enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast at storybook-themed tables, including Curious George, Madeline, Pete the Cat, Where the Wild Things Are, and Dr. Seuss. There will be appearances by several beloved characters, a balloon artist, music, and children will receive a copy of a Spartanburg based book written by The Junior League of Spartanburg’s President, Leah Anderson. Children are invited to dress as their favorite storybook characters! Tickets for Storybook Breakfast can be purchased at the Junior League of Spartanburg website, www.jlspartanburg.org. Church Softball League Meeting

  • There will be a very important church softball league meeting on Monday, Feb. 13, 6 p.m., at Kirby Baptist Church. At this meeting, team rosters and registration fees will be collected. Registration fees have increased due to the installation of new lights: kids and youth teams are $200 per team; women’s, men’s and co-ed teams are $225 per team. Balls are the same and will be sold by the league for $55/dozen or $5.50 each. The 2017 church softball league season will begin March 3 at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. for kids and youth teams; and March 6 at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. for the women’s, men’s and co-ed teams. Valentine’s Dinner and Dance

  • Cherokee County History and Arts Museum is having its annual Valentine’s dinner and dance fundraiser. Reserve your place and enjoy a wonderful, romantic Italian dinner by Cathy Torres and dancing with Billy Transou playing your favorite tunes. Cash bar will be provided. Groups, upon request, may reserve a table for the same price per person. Let’s celebrate Valentine’s Day in style. The museum is conveniently located at 301 College Drive. The doors open at 6:30 p.m., dinner will begin at 7 p.m. and dancing will follow at 8 p.m. Member sales begin Jan. 23. The public may purchase tickets beginning Jan. 30. This event will sell out fast so call the museum right away at 864-489-3988 to reserve your spot, or buy a ticket from any CHAPS board member. It’s amoiré! Don’t miss it! You’ll be glad you made the call and took advantage of a night out at the museum.

Concert at Boiling Springs Community Center

  • The Chuck Wagon Gang, the Chordsmen Qt. and the Pine Ridge Boys will be performing at the Boiling Springs Park Community Center, 182 Rainbow Lake Rd., Boiling Springs, SC, on Jan. 28. Advance tickets are $12 and $15 at the door. Only 300 seats are available. Doors open at 5 p.m., concert begins at 6 p.m.

Men’s Church Basketball League

  • Looking for men’s church basketball teams. No entry fee required. Must have matching shirts with numbers. Churches can combine to make one team. Season starts Jan. 31.   • Cherokee Falls Baptist Church, 109 School St., Cherokee Falls, SC 29702, will host The Pathfinders in a gospel singing concert on Jan. 22 at 6 p.m.
  • The Pathfinders from Mount Holly N.C. will be in concert at Broad River Baptist Church in Blacksburg S.C. Sunday, January 22. Services will begin at 10:45 a.m. Please make plans to join us for a morning of worship.
  • Goucher Baptist Church, located at 415 Goucher Creek Road, will have a concert featuring Soul Harvest Sunday, January 22 at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited. Doors will open at 6 p.m. A love offering will be taken. Please come and worship with us.
  • Word of Deliverance Assemblies will celebrate the 21st Church Anniversary on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. Guest messenger will be Apostle James Spence of Durham, N.C.   • The Celestial Choir of the Limestone Missionary Baptist Church cordially invites you to attend their 55th anniversary of singing God’s praises.   • The Children Church of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate their 9th anniversary on Jan. 22 at 3 p.m. Rev. Samuel Lee Kelly III of New Birth Non-Denominational (Great Falls, S.C.) will be the guest speaker.
  • The Thickety Mountain Woman’s Missionary Convention will have their quarterly Fifth Sunday Missionary workshop on Sunday January 29, 2017 at 3 p.m. in the Mary Gaffney Knuckles Auditorium, Thickety Mountain Baptist Associational Building at 1505 Old Post Road, Gaffney, SC. The program theme is: ‘How can Children of God Build Bridges Instead of Walls’?   • Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held five times each week in Gaffney at 117 E. Carlisle St (behind Limestone Methodist Church): Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m.A meeting for women only is held on Mondays at 7 p.m. A newcomer’s meeting is held Fridays at 8 p.m.
  • Narcotics Anonymous meetings are held at the same location on Sundays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays at 8 p.m.
