WILSON WILSON Longtime Blacksburg Town Councilwoman Janie Wilson will be honored Thursday at a community reception held prior to the town’s regularly scheduled meeting.

The drop-in event is scheduled for 5:30 - 7 p.m. in the Blacksburg Museum. This will be the longtime council member’s final meeting ahead of the Aug. 9 election.

Wilson is finishing her fourth term and has served on Blacksburg Town Council since 2001.

“We want to honor Janie Wilson for her many years of hard work and dedication to our town,” Blacksburg Town Administrator Charlene Carter said. “We have planned a thank-you reception Thursday to show our appreciation for what Janie has done for the town over the past 15 years.”

Wilson has lived in Blacksburg since 1969 and is finishing her fourth term representing District 4. She said she chose not to seek re-election after much prayer and thought.

“I have served on town council for many years,” Wilson said. “I’m ready for a change.”

Wendell Earls and Sherwin Ford are running for Wilson’s District 4 seat.
