Claudette S. Austin

Greer, S.C. — Claudette Austin from Lexington, SC, passed away peacefully at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, S.C. on July 16, 2016. She had been a resident of Thrive Assisted Living in Greer, S.C.

A Greenville native Claudette, 80, was the daughter of the late Sherwood and Eula Smith. She was a graduate of Greenville High School and was the wife of the late Dr. Barney C. Austin.

Surviving are her children, Cynthia Austin of Norfolk, VA, Mary Susan “Bird” Austin of Greer, Barney Austin, Jr. of Lexington and Amy Austin Mayfield and husband, Scott of Greer. Also surviving are her three grandchildren, Sydney, Caleb, and Hannah Grace Mayfield.

Claudette was also predeceased by her infant sister, Ann Smith, and her brother, Dr. Sherwood Smith, Jr. and his wife, Jeannie.

When someone came in contact with Claudette, you knew she was someone special. She had that “sassy thing” about her personality that captured everyone’s heart.

Visitation will be held 10 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Riverside Baptist Church in Greer, followed by the service at 11 a.m. Graveside services following at Oakland Cemetery in Gaffney, S.C. at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McCall Hospice House, 1836 West Georgia Road, Simpsonville, S.C. 29680.
