Rachel Davis, 72, retired insurance agent

COLUMBIA – Rachel Hawkins Davis, 72, of 782 Rolling Green Lane, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at Agape Hospice House in Columbia.

Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of Thomas Parker Davis Jr. and daughter of the late James Bonner Hawkins and Elizabeth Batchelor Hawkins Childers and stepdaughter of the late Coley Childers. Mrs. Davis was a retired insurance agent and a member of Arsenal Hill Presbyterian Church. Rachel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend loved and treasured by all who knew her.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Parke Davis of Columbia and Joey Davis of Rogers Ark.; two daughters, Lisa Huff of West Columbia and Susie Matthews and husband, John, of Lexington; a brother, Jim Hawkins and wife, Rachel, of Gaffney; a step-brother, Virgil Childers and wife, Angela, of Jonesville; a step-sister-inlaw, Shirley Childers of Fort Mill; and 12 grandchildren, Bonnie Deering and husband, Stuart, Andrew Huff, Johnny Matthews, Madison Davis, Rachel Davis, Elizabeth Matthews, Torie Davis, Christopher Matthews, Parker Davis, Anna Matthews, Tyler Davis and Cole Davis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a step-brother, Joe Dean Childers.

The family will receive Columbia area friends and family Saturday, Oct. 13, from 2-4 p.m. at Arsenal Hill Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. The family will receive Gaffney area friends and family Monday, Oct. 15, from 1-2 p.m. at Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Clyde Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agape Foundation, 141 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia, SC 29210.

The family is at the home of Jim and Rachel Hawkins, 500 S. Petty St., Gaffney.
