John Hampton

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Mr. John Vincent Hampton, Sr., 62, of Stoney Point Road, Kings Mountain, N.C., passed away Tuesday evening, May 24, 2011, at the Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.

Mr. Hampton was born January 29, 1949, in Charleston, West Va., the son of the late John Hampton and the late Margaret Julia Krasyk Hampton, and was the husband of Dorrene Mathis.

Mr. Hampton was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, a technician by trade, and was employed at Vulcan Materials and also at Pacolet Industries.

He is survived by, in addition to his wife, a daughter, Celeste M. Downing of Bronson, Fla.; three sons, John Vincent Hampton, Jr. of Rincon, Ga., William O. Hampton of Boiling Springs, and Robert M. Hampton of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Michelle Hampton of Annapolis, Md. and Melissa Corbett of Reston, Va; and one brother, Jerome W. Hampton of Hyattsville, Md.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Hampton will be held in the Shuford- Hatcher Funeral Home, 211 East Frederick Street, in Gaffney on Friday, May 27, 2011, at 2 p.m. conducted by Dr. Bob Belford.
