School report cards coming

By SCOTT POWELL Ledger Staff Writer spowell@gaffneyledger.com

The state plans to release two report cards this year on how schools are performing on state tests.

The 2009 report card ratings are expected to be issued Friday, April 16. This will be followed later this fall by the results on state tests that students take this May.

These are the first elementary and middle school report card grades since state lawmakers approved a new test in 2008 called the Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (PASS). State lawmakers ordered the new test for grades 3- 8 last year while revising the 1998 school accountability law.

Normally released in November, the state delayed the report card release until the state’s Education Oversight Committee set passing scores for the PASS test.
