Festival gets $5,000 less than last year from city

At a time when most residents are pinching pennies a little tighter, the South Carolina Peach Festival might have to do the same.

Gaffney City Council on Monday approved a $10,000 appropriation to help fund the festival’s Family Fun Day.

Last year, council shelled out $15,000 for the event. The money will come from the city‘s Hospitality Tax, which is generated from prepared food sales within the city limits.

Gaffney Mayor Henry Jolly said the Fun Day has taken place downtown but may be moved elsewhere this time.

Peach festival officials are still eligible for a share of the city’s Accommodations Tax revenue. The A-Tax committee is expected to meet within weeks to make its funding recommendations. Typically, the Peach Festival receives the lion’s share of the available ATax funds.
