For cash-strapped local governments, March Madness has already begun.

Cherokee County officials are in the process of examining expenditure and revenue projections, but Cherokee County Assistant Administrator Holland Belue said he has no plans on speaking to the press about the proposed budget.

The City of Gaffney, on the other hand, has released its budget timeline. According to the budget calendar, department heads will turn in their wish lists on Wednesday, March 24 - about a month before a scheduled workshop with the city’s finance committee on April 23.

If things go as scheduled, full council will have its first discussion about the budget in a workshop on May 3.

The first reading of the new city budget is slated for Monday, June 7, with the public hearing and final reading two weeks later on June 21.
