A 92-year-old city woman injured in a May 27 car crash died Monday morning at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mary Carter, of 102 College Drive, was a front seat passenger in a 1994 Buick headed south on the T Bridge ramp when a collision occurred at the South Granard Street juncture at about 10 a.m.

The Gaffney Police Department in an accident report said the driver of the Buick pulled out in front of a 2009 Toyota driven by a Blacksburg resident and was struck on the passenger side.

Carter, who was the only person listed in the accident report as being injured in the crash, was airlifted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler ruled Carter's death accidental and the cause of her death as injuries sustained in the crash. Fowler said Carter's death is the 4th traffic-related death in Cherokee County this year.

According to the accident report, police estimated the speed of the Buick at 9 mph in a 35 mph zone. The driver of the other vehicle was estimated to be traveling 35 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Police estimated the damage to both vehicles at about $5,000 each.
