Saints compete at Clemson track meet

Several of the Saints' track and field athletes wrapped up their season at the Orange and Purple Classic hosted by Clemson University on Saturday. Anisha Barbee just missed qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Championship in the 200-meter and 100-meter dash events.

Barbee ran 200 meters in 24.96, just shy of the provisional national time of 24.80. She also ran the 100-meter race in 12.15, only .03 short of the provisional national time (12.12). Barbee placed 11th in the 100-meter dash and finished 18th in the 200-meter dash.

Jenny Altieri took eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.00).

For the men, D'Juan Thurmond took eighth place in the 400-meter dash (50.63) and was 19th in the 200-meter dash (23:06).

No Yao, no problem for Houston

The Houston Rockets not only beat the Los Angeles Lakers without Yao Ming, they made it look easy. Aaron Brooks scored a career-high 34, Shane Battier sank five 3-pointers and added 23 and the Houston Rockets routed the Los Angeles Lakers 99-87 on Sunday to even their Western Conference semifinal at two games apiece.

Luis Scola had 11 points and 14 rebounds as the Rockets got exactly the team effort they needed after Yao broke his left foot in the Lakers' win in Game 3.

Kotchman leads Braves past Phils

Casey Kotchman lofted a short fly to center field in the third inning and angrily slammed his bat to the ground.

He took out his aggression on the Phillies the rest of the game.

Kotchman had three hits and three RBIs, Kenshin Kawakami pitched six effective innings and the Atlanta Braves rallied for a 4- 2 victory over Philadelphia on Sunday.

Kotchman hit a two-out, tworun single off Jack Taschner (1-1) in the seventh inning to give the Braves a 3-2 lead. He also had an RBI double in the ninth.

"I'm just trying to make the most of the opportunities I get, said Kotchman, who went 3 for 5 to raise his average to .312.

Garret Anderson had two hits for the Braves (15-16), who took two of three from the Phillies to move within one game of .500. Rafael Soriano worked the ninth for his third save in three opportunities.
