Employees at the Cherokee County Magistrates Office and the Cherokee County Law Enforcement Center held a welcome home celebration on Friday for Chief Magistrate Bart Howell, who recently returned from a year-long deployment to Iraq with the U.S. Army.

Among those who came out to give their thanks for Lt. Col. Howell's safe return was state Sen. Harvey Peeler, who didn't come empty-handed. Peeler (left, in photo) presented Howell with a proclamation from the state Senate, thanking him for his dedication and service to both the United States and South Carolina.

"Think about the thing you love most in this world," Peeler told the crowd of friends, well-wishers and family members who showed up at the Magistrates Office on Friday. "People like Bart put their lives on the line for it."
