If today's edition of The Gaffney Ledger looks and feels a bit different but you can't quite put your finger on the change, it's all a matter of width.

The Ledger has adopted a newspaper size that's 10 inches wide, or 1 5/8 inches more narrow than previous editions.

We made the change for two reasons.

One, studies have shown that the 10-inch page width is more comfortable to hold, makes it easier to turn the pages and is more pleasing to the eye.

Two, the cost of newsprint, the type of paper on which The Ledger is printed, is one of the more expensive aspects of the printing and production process. The change in page width will allow us some savings on newsprint costs.
