Copper thieves strike again

For the second time in less than a week, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported damage to a cell phone tower by copper thieves.

According to the latest incident report, someone stole copper grounding bars and a number of wires from a Verizon Wireless cell phone tower on Green Lake Road in Chesnee. Theft and damage losses are estimated at $3,000.

A metal thief targeted a SunCom Wireless tower in Blacksburg between Feb. 23 and April 28, stealing the same materials.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the grand larceny of a heat and air condenser unit and copper pipe from a Victory Trail Road home.

The thefts occurred sometime between April 16 and April 30, according to an incident report. Theft and damage losses are estimated at $1,800.
