Gaffney was among 43 high schools nationally to earn both boys and girls team academic awards from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for the 2004-05 academic year. The Gaffney boys’ team had a GPA of 3.40, while the girls had a GPA of 3.25.

To qualify, a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 for the entire academic year.

Blacksburg High offensive lineman Trey Williams was selected to the Class A All-State team.

Williams graded out as the team’s top offensive lineman with an average grade of 88. He also led the offensive line with 26 pancake blocks.

Williams was the leader of an offensive line that helped Blacksburg running back Manny Ford and wide receiver/running back Tim Boyd run for more than 200 yards in two of the final four games of the season.

Williams is one of only 10 seniors on this year’s team. He joined Boyd and defensive lineman Cameron Duffie on the all-region team.

“We will miss Trey Williams. He really did a good job for us on the offensive line and was one of our team leaders,” Blacksburg High coach Robbie Blanton said.

Monica Adams scored 13 points and hauled down 15 rebounds as the Limestone women’s basketball team improved to 4-5 with a 71-60 win over Lander Tuesday. Melissa DeVore had 22 points for the Lady
