Belva ‘Billie’ Rae Ford

SPARTANBURG – George and Billie Ford went hand in hand into the presence of Jesus on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005. They had just recently celebrated their 57th anniversary.

George Ernest Ford was the son of the late William Baxter and Martha Hamrick Ford. He was born Dec. 14, 1927, in Gaffney. A graduate of Gaffney High School, he attended Spartanburg Methodist College and retired after more than 40 years of service at Southern Railway. He was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher and usher. He was a charter member and deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member and chairman of the building committee at his former church, Northview Baptist.

Belva Rae “Billie” Ford was the daughter of the late Carlos and Gladys Jones. She was born July 18, 1933, in Gaffney. She attended Gaffney High School and Piedmont Beauty School and owned the Fashionette Beauty Salon until her retirement. She was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church, where she helped with many of the church’s mission outreach activities.

Mr. and Mrs. Ford are survived by a daughter and sonin law, Cathy and Tommy Sparks; a son and daughterin law, Rick and Cindy Ford. Their daughter, Brenda Rogers, died along with them.

Mr. Ford is survived by a sister, Margaret Motts. Mrs. Ford is survived by a brother, Richard Jones, and a sister, Shirley Hammett. They had six grandchildren, Stephen and Dee Rogers, Travis and Alyssa Sparks, Eric and Kristi Sparks, Amanda and Les Faehnrich, Ashley Ford and Kerrie Ford. They had six greatgrandchildren, Kyle Rogers, Samuel, Hannah Grace, Faith, Lydia, and Steven Sparks. They were anxiously awaiting the birth of their seventh great-grandchild in February, Seth Faehnrich.

The funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at Mountainview Baptist Church on Parris Bridge Road, conducted by the Rev. Glenn Rusher, the Rev. David Moore and the couple’s son-in-law, the Rev. Tommy Sparks. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery in Gaffney.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Mobile Meals, P.O. Box 461, Spartanburg, S.C. 29304; Bethany Baptist Church Missions, 622 Alamo Street, Spartanburg, S.C. 29303; or to God’s Little Haven, 106 Whispering Pines Drive, Moore, S.C. 29369.

The family will be at the home of Mrs. Ford’s brother, Dick Jones, 256 Cedar Springs Road, Spartanburg.
